Pastels
LOUIS BISHOP
Pastel is an art medium in the form of a stick, consisting of pure powdered pigment and a binder. (reference source Wikipedia)

Louis combines his pigments and binders to create his own pastels for his artwork. In addition to working in Pastels he also enjoys doing pen and ink pieces. Louis finds inspiration in the below quote.

"But he loves and struggles, conquers, loses, and dies, as he always has done; and in his face and his actions, as well as in the great background of his experiences, there are subjects for pictorial consideration as thrilling and dramatic as those which invited the powers of Leonardo da Vinci." -Thomas Craven

I often read this quote when examining the direction of my art, a personal art that doesn't believe that an artist can simply imprint what he observes, but an art full of life using visual form to express the artist's spirit. This allows me to explore man's relationship to nature and God both personally and as a common thread of man. And, although I work in several mediums, pastel allows me the versatility I need to both draw and paint, and experiment with it's limitations to push my boundaries of expression.
