"Simply put, I paint for the pure, personal enjoyment of doing so, concentrating always on the fascinating play of light and shadow on interesting forms and shapes."
Dick Albyn is a retired architect. He was born, grew up and practiced, primarily, in Michigan. As a youngster he first wanted to be an editorial cartoonist, then a commercial artist and illustrator. His high school art teacher, a world traveler and photographer, got him interested in architecture. He was trained in that profession at the University of Illinois. Looking forward to the day when he could indulge his many interests in drawing, painting, photography, writing, archaeology and genealogy, he retired in 1986, relocating with his wife, Nancy, to the beautiful rolling, green mountains of Western North Carolina to do just that. He has been painting in acrylics since 1990. His work has been exhibited at the Alger House Museum, Grosse Pointe, MI; the Raleigh Fine Art Society, Raleigh, NC; the Transylvania County (NC) Arts Council, Festival of the Arts and Focus on Art annual shows. His work is in a number of private collections. Included in Who's Who in America, he is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a member of the Art League and of the Arts Center of Henderson County, NC; the Tryon Painters and Sculptors of Tryon, NC, and the Transylvania County Arts Council, Brevard, NC. |
