"The coldness of glass warmed by nodding flowers, birds in flight, and sizzling swirls of color intrigues me. The contrast is compelling and drives me forward to yet another design idea.
In the studio, Glass Feather Studio and Gardens, I'm surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, wildflower gardens, and wildlife posing for new designs. It's easy to create an atmosphere where craft and nature merge a Travis Glass bowl along the garden path, filled with water, a flower floating, a goldfinch splashing. I enjoy making plates, platters, bowls, and other functional pieces. Bowls with an Attitude are particularly amusing if for no other reason than the name. Kiln opening is always exciting an event that gets me to the studio early the morning after firing. I began fusing glass in 1980 in collaboration with my husband, Robert P. Travis, Ph.D. We developed our own style and technique to a process started by the glass workers of Ancient Egypt. Robert's son, Robert P. Travis, III joined us in the year 2001 so there are now three of us creating The Travis Collection of Fused Glass. Rob brings a lot of energy and creativity to the mix." Designs are original and most are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. Although not recommended for extremely hot food or microwave use, the fused glass is food safe and dishwasher safe.
