"Art is not in pictures alone. Its place is in everything, as much in one thing as in another." - Robert Henri, The Art Spirit

"Art is not only in nature, but in our surroundings, including the clothes we wear. I seek to express art in wearables done with surface design techniques. I am a Batik enthusiast and proud to be one of many in the world keeping this ancient art alive and ever-changing. I also work in marbling, fabric painting and shibori.

"I have been working in Batik since 1974, following production of custom candles in Chicago. Although I have attended workshops and taken a University course in Batik, I am largely self-taught. My work is in the traditional Indonesian manner, dyeing and dipping with numerous waxings and over-dyeings. I prefer work in this authentic Batik manner, rather than using such short-cuts as 'painting in.' Tradition requires patience. Mine was probably learned by working with children whose functioning was impaired. In 1990, I became interested in the art of marbling, took a workshop at The Folk Art Center and added marbling paper and fabric to my production ranges."
