Watercolor & Papier-Maché: MARCIA BRENNAN

"Yellow Lady Slippers"

"I'm sitting out there with my paper, paints and brushes. Sometimes coping with wind or rain, bugs or curious on-lookers. Working always under a deadline of changing light and weather conditions and uneven drying times. The exact thing you're trying to capture is moving through and the air is cold and nothing will dry. But the effort is worth it because for me looking at that painting even years from now will immediately bring the whole experience back to me, the season, the time of day, the smell of the air, the color of the sky."

"With the rich undisturbed paper surface, smooth passages of color and the surprises that are inherent in the watercolor medium, I try to capture that thing that is so important to all of us, our connection to nature. My biggest satisfaction comes when someone else can look at my paintings and feel that wonder and joy and make that connection."

Marcia Brennan began using watercolor paints when she was only a child. Growing up in Savannah, GA, she was greatly influenced by several local artists who painted the beautiful coastal landscape. Mostly self-taught, Marcia continued to paint, participating in shows in Savannah and the low country of South Carolina, winning first place in the Hilton Head Art League's first Juried Exhibition in 1988.

Marcia says she spent the last few years after moving to the Brevard area learning to paint the mountains.

"The #7 Arts gallery has given me just the outlet I needed to show my paintings with the added bonus of working with other wonderful artists."
